Croasdell Family - Potted Histories

 

Henry Croasdell was baptised at Finsthwaite on 25 November 1752 the second child and eldest son of James & Jane. Like his father and grandfather he was a hooper/hoopmaker (also described as a cooper) and worked in wood.

Henry married Frances Bragg, known as Fanny, after banns read at Finsthwaite church, on 26th May 1776,

James and Fanny had 6 children, naming their 3rd son James after their first born, also James, had suffered an early death. Fanny died shortly after the birth of their 6th child, Isaac, and was buried at Finsthwaite on 7th October 1795. Two years later Henry married a second time at Cartmel, to Elizabeth Jackson on 26th October 1797.

Henry died on 19 May 1807 at Landing aged 54 and was buried on 21st May at Finsthwaite. Jackson was brought up by his mother Elizabeth who died in March 1826 and was buried at Hawkshead on the 29th.
